    Salut tuturor,

    Am decis sa deschid acest topic deoarece tocmai am sosit in Uk si ma lovesc de o problema si anume la unele chestii gen castraveti murati, smantana, gogosari nu stiu cum se traduce in engleza.
    Astfel consider ca ar fi foarte indicat sa facem o lista cu ingredinetele pe care le folosim la mancare.

    Eu as incepe cu:

    - rosii -> tomatos
    - castravete -> cucumber
    - smantana -> cream
    - mamaliga -> ??

    Restu va rog sa mai adaugati si voi -scratch- cratch-

    salut!

    mamaliga e "polenta" (cake)
    ("cake" e optional, nu se foloseste peste tot)

    smintina (acra) e "sour cream"; mai e si "double cream" care e o smitina foarte grasa, ceva in genul cum luam noi acasa de la supermarket, din aia obtinuta la separator; mai e "whipping cream", din care obtii frisca

    castraveti murati e "gherkins" (in special aia mici)

    gogosari nu stiu, dar o sa aflu :p

    mai astept postari, e ca o provocare pt mine

    Din moment ce aceasta sectiune este dedicata invatarii; m-am gandit ca ar fi fine sa fie invatate lucrurile corect. Asa ca o sa imi permit sa punctez niste greseli:

    1. Icrele de crap nu au cum sa fie "cod roe" pt simplul motiv ca una e codul (cod) si alta e crapul (carp)
    2. Taramasalata e mai des intalnita cu urmatorul spelling: taramosalata (ambele sunt corecte)
    3. Creme fraiche e forma corecta (nu freche), preluata exact din franceza cu accente cu tot: crème fraîche.
    4. Pluralul al tomato este tomatoES
    5. Pentru cei obisnuiti cu enleza americana din filmele de acasa, sau daca gasiti retete din USA: aubergines=egg plant(US)=vinete sau courgettes=zucchini(US)=dovlecei

    Un dictionar explicativ bun pe care vi-l recomand e www.thefreedictionary.com ; doar ca daca vreti sa auziti si pronuntia o sa fie un accent.. foarte american.

    Numai bine!

    Baked beans - mincare de fasole

    fried eggs- ochiuri

    omellete - omleta

    mash potato - piure

    honey - miere

    defapt cred ca astea nu sint prea interesante, iar despre mincarea romaneasca nu stiu prea mult ca sa traduc ( nici sa o gatesc! )
    scuze, cam atit.

    carne - meat

    carne- vaca - beef

    oaie- mutton

    miel - lamb

    porc - pork

    pui - chicken

    curcan - turkey

    ficat - liver

    ficat de pui - chicken livers

    carne tocata - minced meat

    untura de porc - lard

    varza murata (frunze) - pickled cabbage leaves

    castraveti murati - pickled cucumbers - don't really like jerkins at all, intotdeauna ma uit sa scrie cucumbers, altfel nu imi plac deloc

    branza dulce - cottage cheese

    urda - ricotta

    telemea - fetta (ex greek fetta)

    smantana - soured cream

    smantana mai tare -creme fraiche

    coarse corn meal- mamaliga - polenta e o faina mult prea fina si are o textura cu totul diferita, eu nu pot sa o compar cu mamaliga, ma rog, fiecare cu gusturile proprii, am incercat si eu polenta cand am venit in uk prima data si nu a adus la gust cu mamaliga pe care o mancam acasa...

    gris -semolina

    marar - dill

    patrunjel - parsely

    usturoi -garlic

    Daca are cineva intrebari specifice...altfel putem insira sute de cuvinte

    Rebecca ,sau oricine altcineva stie,am nevoie de o substanta antimana(pt rosiile din gradina,am adus seminte din tara,si acum sunt cam de 50 cm inaltime,unele dau deja in floare,dar unele se maneaza).Am fost la Homebase dar am vazut doar substanta antibugs,si habar nu am cum s-ar zice la "mana plantelor".
    Stie cineva?Thanks
