ImageFilmul “4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile”, al lui Cristian Mungiu a castigat premiul Hollywood World Award, dupa ce in urma cu cateva luni a fost premiat cu Palme D`or. Premiu Hollywood World Award, a fost acordat luni seara, 22 octombrie, la Los Angeles, in incheierea Hollywood Film Festival. In ultimii patru ani, castigatorul acestui premiu este ales dintre zece filme de o comisie formata din critici de film, potrivit newsin.ro.
Anul acesta in afara de filmul lui Mungiu au mai participat, pelicula "Control", cu Alexandra Maria Lara si regizata de Anton Corbijn, "The Diving Bell And The Butterfly", de Julian Schnabel, "Persepolis", de Marjane Satrapi si Vincent Paronnaud sau "Silent Light", de Carlos Reygadas.

No priority for UK medics - BMA

ImageBritish-born medics should not be given training priority over foreign doctors already in the UK, the British Medical Association (BMA) has declared. A government consultation has been launched after a report said thousands of UK doctors could not find jobs because of soaring foreign applicants. The BMA said medical immigration did need to be controlled, but not at the expense of those already here. Many had spent thousands of pounds of their own money on training, it said.
Ministers promised to look into the issue of applications from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) following a key report by Sir John Tooke. He had looked into the recruitment problems in the wake of a new training system, and had concluded that the number of overseas applications had exacerbated an already difficult situation.

Britanicii ar putea fi catalogati cu succes "cei mai bolnavi locuitori ai Europei", dupa ce un raport guvernamental a relevat cifre record in ceea ce priveste obezitatea, abuzul de alcool, diabetul si fumatul in Marea Britanie, scrie cotidianul Daily Telegraph in editia sa electronica de marti. Rata obezitatii printre britanicii adulti este cea mai ridicata de pe continent, iar in unele regiuni, ajunge aproape de media nationala din Statele Unite. Spre exemplu, in localitatea engleza Boston, Lincolnshire, aproape o treime din populatie este periculos de grasa. Studiul asupra sanatatii populatiei arata ca aproape 900.000 de copii britanici cu varste de pana la 11 ani sunt obezi - ceea ce inseamna o crestere cu 50 de procente in ultimul deceniu.
Studiul mai arata ca Marea Britanie este singura tara europeana in care consumul de alcool este in crestere, ca si numarul deceselor cauzate din acest motiv, in special in randul femeilor. Un britanic consuma anual, in medie, 11,37 de litri de alcool pur, fata de media euroeana de 10,95 de litri. In plus, numarul femeilor britanice cu varste intre 35 si 54 de ani care fac abuz de alcool aproape ca s-a dublat in ultimii 15 ani.

Child obesity alert plan pondered

ImageParents may be warned if their children are found to be overweight, under Department of Health (DoH) proposals. Children in England are currently measured at the ages of five and 10 but parents are informed of the results only if they request them. But the new plan may see parents getting results automatically. The DoH said ministers were prepared to go further and faster in the fight against childhood obesity, although no firm decisions had been made. Between a quarter and a third of children are thought to be overweight and doctors fear there will be an epidemic of poor health related to obesity in coming decades.  An obese person dies on average nine years earlier than somebody of normal weight, while a very obese person's life is cut short by an average of 13 years.
Under the proposals being considered, information obtained under the measurement programme could be given automatically to parents in England, and involvement may become compulsory unless people choose to opt out of the measurement scheme.

Europenii se aliaza impotriva reclamelor la junk- food

ImageFranta si Marea Britanie sunt primele doua tari europene care au luat atitudine impotriva rec?la?melor la junk-food, difuzate in timpul programelor pentru copii. Autoritatile acuza marile companii ca isi promoveaza pro?dusele nesanatoase intr-un mod mai agresiv ca niciodata. In Franta, studiile au aratat ca aproape 90 la suta dintre reclamele difuzate in timpul programelor de desene animate, promoveaza produse dulci sau cu multe grasimi. Francezii sunt ingrijorati pentru ca procentul copiilor obezi creste anual cu cel putin 6 la suta, iar media de varsta scade tot mai mult. Autoritatile din domeniul protectiei consumatorului spun ca numai legea ii poate opri pe „publicitari”.
Uniunea Franceza a Consumatorilor a cerut deja guvernului sa reglementeze publicitatea la junk-food. In afara de interzicerea reclamelor la mancarea nesanatoasa pe canalele cu programe pentru copii, francezii vor sa fie scoase si cutiile cu dulciuri din fata caselor de marcat, care sunt prea tentante pentru micutii care isi insotesc parintii la cumparaturi.
